How We Rank Laser Tattoo Removal Clinics
This page explains where our data comes from, how we score and rank clinics, and what the data can’t tell you. We publish the method so you can judge our rankings for yourself. We keep the exact weights private so clinics can’t game them.

Where does our clinic data come from?
Our clinic data comes from four places: public business listings for each clinic’s address, hours, rating and reviews, the clinic’s own website and price list, the laser manufacturers’ published specifications, and each state’s official rules on who may perform laser tattoo removal.
Prices are recorded per session, exactly as the clinic publishes them or gives them to us. When a clinic doesn’t publish a price or name its laser, the field stays blank. We never fill a gap with an estimate, so a blank on a profile means the clinic hasn’t told anyone.
Laser details on each profile (wavelengths, pulse type, the ink colors each wavelength targets and the skin types it is cleared for) come from our database of 44 devices, built from manufacturer specifications. The legal section on each clinic page quotes the state rule word for word and links to its source.
Who writes the reviews?
Patients write every review we count. Ratings and reviews are submitted by people who were treated at the clinic, on public review platforms. We don’t write, edit or pay for reviews, and no clinic can choose which of its reviews we count.
On many clinic profiles we add a summary of what reviewers mention most: results, pain, staff, booking and price. It reports what patients say, in their words where possible. It is not our opinion of the clinic.
Which clinics do we list?
We list clinics that offer laser tattoo removal from a real US street address and can be reached by website or phone. Listing is free, and no clinic can pay to be added.
We leave out businesses that only offer creams, saline or other non-laser methods, duplicate listings for the same practice, and businesses with no public premises.
How does the clinic score work?
Every clinic gets a quality score built from four signals: its average rating, how many reviews stand behind that rating, whether it publishes its prices, and which laser it uses. Rating carries the most weight. The other three decide between clinics with similar ratings.
Average rating
The star rating patients give the clinic. It is the strongest signal because it sums up thousands of first-hand experiences we could never collect ourselves.
Number of reviews
A 5.0 from four reviews proves less than a 4.8 from four hundred, so review count adds confidence. It counts with diminishing returns: going from 10 to 100 reviews matters far more than going from 500 to 590. That stops large chains from winning on volume alone.
Published prices
A clinic that tells you what a session costs before you call earns credit for it. Only 783 of the 1,861 clinics we list do.
Laser
A clinic that names its laser earns credit, and the device itself is placed in a tier. Tiers reflect how recent the technology is and how many ink colors its wavelengths are built to target, based on manufacturer specifications. A higher tier doesn’t mean a laser will work better on your tattoo. Your ink colors and skin type decide that, which is why every profile lists the wavelengths.
What the score ignores
Advertising, payments and whether a clinic works with us. A clinic can raise its score only by earning better reviews or publishing its prices and laser.
How do we rank clinics on city and state pages?
City and state pages list clinics by score, with two rules on top. On state pages, the best clinic in each city appears before any city gets a second place. On every page, a chain’s third and later locations move below the independent clinics, so one brand can’t fill the list.
You can also sort any list by price.
How do we check before and after photos?
Every case in our before and after gallery is shared by the patient and reviewed by hand before it goes live. We reject clinic ads and single photos with nothing to compare. Session numbers come from what the patient says, never from guessing at the photos.
The gallery holds 1,113 published cases. Each records what the patient shared: laser, sessions, ink colors, skin type, cost and side effects. Fields the patient didn’t mention stay empty.
How do we work out average prices?
Average prices come only from clinics that publish both their lowest and highest price per session. We average those for each state and city. Clinics with no published price are left out rather than guessed, so an average from a handful of clinics deserves less trust than one from dozens.
The cost calculator starts from these local prices, places your tattoo’s size within the local range, and estimates sessions from its colors, your skin type and other factors that affect removal.
What can’t our data tell you?
Our data can’t predict how your tattoo will respond. A high score means patients rate the clinic well and it shares more information than most. It doesn’t guarantee results, and nothing on this site is medical advice.
Prices change, so confirm the current price with the clinic before you book. Ratings reflect the whole experience, from booking to aftercare, not only how much the tattoo faded.
